Regulation Around Cryptocurrency

Summary

This is the first webinar in our series of upcoming cryptocurrency events. During this session delegates will be provided with an overview of the themes and issues in crypto regulation in the UK currently.

Cryptocurrency has become a significant factor in the global investment landscape and as result the interest and involvement of regulators is increasing. In recent years Crypto’s has matured from speculative investment to a serious asset class for banks, hedge funds, asset managers and retail investors alike.  Regulation, globally, however, has lagged behind the pace of this adoption, and is sporadic, as governments around the world remain divided on how to best regulate the emerging industry.  This session will primarily focus on how the FCA supervises crypto.

We will cover the key definitions used in the UK around crypto, and explain the current landscape.  We will focus on the current requirements are for cryptocurrency providers in the UK in respect of anti money laundering (AML) and know your customer (KYC). The session will also take a forward looking view on what the future may hold for regulatory framework.
