IMPROVING ACCESS TO THE ACCOUNTANCY PROFESSION
Access Accountancy is an ambitious collaboration of employers and professional bodies, dedicated to improving access to the accountancy profession. Our vision is a profession that is more representative, at all levels, of the socio-economic demographic of wider society.
THE NEED TO IMPROVE ACCESS
With the country’s future prosperity and growth underpinned by the expansion of the professions, there is a need to ensure that firms are recruiting the most talented people regardless of background. However, social mobility within the accountancy profession has declined, and unless trends reverse tomorrow’s professional is growing up in a family richer than seven in ten of all families in the UK1.
The Access Accountancy commitments:
By working together and committing to measurable outcomes, we hope to deliver real change and welcome talented and ambitious young people to the profession from all backgrounds. Access Accountancy signatories are committed to:
- Providing a target number of 30 hour work placements, depending on their size and capacity, to students from disadvantaged backgrounds
- Collecting and monitoring socio-economic data of applicants on an annual basis.
- Taking part in externally validated reviews of Access Accountancy
- Generating interest in accountancy by delivering common messages in more schools and colleges
Signatories are encouraged to make an annual financial donation to Access Accountancy dependent on their size, with the largest firms contributing the most, and the smallest firms exempt from making financial contributions.
